Re: Finally got he Jangly T-14 Installed

Coolwhips! Looks great, man! You have quite the setup there! I'm honored you're going to put that house to good use. Like I told you when you were here, I hope you get so many birds that you can barely hear yourself think when you're outside! Thanks for the kind words, brother. Good luck, and keep u...

Re: Free T-14 and Pole

Coolwhips,

I appreciate you, brother. Took 2 minutes talking to you to see you'll take as good or care of the Purple Martins as the wife and I did. She's in good hands!

Best of luck. Hope it's loud as hell when all those Martins are singing!

Re: Free T-14 and Pole

I didn’t get an email. I checked my spam, and it wasn’t there either. And I’m sorry, but I wasn’t sure what you meant by the last part of your instructions. I guess I’m very simple when it comes to online communication.

Any other ideas?

Re: Free T-14 and Pole

Cool whip,

I still have the unit, and it’s yours if you make it this way tomorrow. Not sure how to DM on here, but can you send me your number. I’ll give you an address.

Thanks,

Free T-14 and Pole

Hello, I am moving on Wednesday and need to get rid of my Purple Martin homes and pole/winch system. I built the T-14 myself according to Chuck's Martin Page plans. It's very nice, made from cedar and I painted it white. Has removable nest boxes too. I also designed a custom pole/winch system that I...

Re: Research Project - Effects of Hurricanes on Purple Martin Populations

Wow, this is great information so far! DLN, dropping the Martin housing is the primary thing I considered if a hurricane or strong storm hit, but I never considered it during the daytime. Do you think the Martins would have difficulty adjusting their flight out of the houses if you made this adjustm...

Research Project - Effects of Hurricanes on Purple Martin Populations

Hello, So I am taking a college course titled Emergency Management & Planning. This professor requires a research project and presentation in each of his classes involving the course material. He likes it to be related to the field we intend on working in, but since I already work in that field ...

Re: Newbie

Wow, that's great news! I'm totally jealous! I just poked my head out the door to check on my T-14 and still nothing. Are you familiar with tumbleweed? Well there was a really small air-tumbleweed that just floated by a few of the rooms while I was watching. A little mini dust devil came in right be...

Re: Newbie

Tengai, I'm a newbie too. My story is similar to yours it seems. I got a lot of visitors a while back, sometimes daily, but it stopped relatively suddenly. I found out a week or two later that I live near a colony no more than a 1/2 mile away. I play the dawn song and daytime chatter, so I'm pretty ...

Re: Apparently I live near a colony! Got some questions...

This is great information and help. Thank you all! I knocked on this guys door the other day to ask him about his setup. His father-in-law put up the houses 9 years ago (there are 3 of them). They are a bit rickety and not particularly well taken care of. He takes them down once a year and cleans th...

Apparently I live near a colony! Got some questions...

I've got questions for you experienced landlords. But first, let me explain what's going on. So I was walking around my neighborhood with my wife yesterday and saw TONS of Purple Martins swarming in the sky. We detoured to see what was going on. Well, it turns out I have a neighbor who lives probabl...

Re: Martin Perscpective - House Choosing

Archer & Dave Duit, Thanks for the advice. Didn't see anyone there yesterday, though my viewing time is limited since my wife and I work from 7-5 each day. Maybe they showed up when I wasn't around. Anyway, I'll keep the vacancy signs up, a mint on the pillow, and my fingers crossed.

Martin Perscpective - House Choosing

Can someone help me learn what to expect, as a first time landlord, with Martins potentially choosing a home in my T-14? I've seen several groups swirling, often times because of the daytime chatter I play from 7-12. Last week, there were around 10 of them circling the house, coming in for a landing...

Re: Bluebird chasing away lookers...

Roger that. Thanks for the help.

My BB house is already facing 90 degrees away from the T-14, but I'll add some perching opposite from the T-14 house to try to keep them occupied elsewhere.

Re: Bluebird chasing away lookers...

I didn't even consider the Drew Protocol when considering plugging their nest after this brood. Having said that, I specifically located their nest exactly 30 feet away from the base of the T-14 based on the Drew Protocol. He claims 25-35 feet is optimal, so I split the difference. Unfortunately, th...

Re: Bluebird chasing away lookers...

I have the same issue. Trying to establish a Martin colony, but I have a pair of BBs and they just had 5 eggs hatch on Saturday. I've been successfully bringing in Martins with the daytime chatter, but the male BB just sits on top of my T-14 and attacks them as they come in to land. My wife and I jo...

Re: First Time Landlord Questions

It's a Texas Mountain Laurel. They grow incredibly slowly, and should reach a mature height of around 15 feet. It won't be a problem for a while, if then, but I didn't have many options. That corner was the most open and the furthest from my house, which unfortunately happens to be only 25 feet away...

Re: First Time Landlord Questions

Retpsub, I actually read that post just yesterday. Wonder what the issue is this year for you? Avesrun & Handyman315, thanks. I'll be using the SREHs this year for sure. I need to start trapping Starlings and Sparrows, but that involves buying or building traps, and my build list is backed up an...

Y'all inspire a lot of confidence about the SREHs. I'm convinced.

Thanks for all the input.
