I am growing a gourd plant for fun. My dad use to grow them and make wren houses out of them. My plant is blooming a lot but I only have 1 gourd so far. I would think every flower would turn into a gourd?? Any advice will be appreciated!

John, I always love reading your reports. I am hopeful that our bad weather will end and I can enjoy my birds again. I have tried so hard to keep them alive by doing everything possible. I lost 2 and hope the little lady that is left can hang in there a few more days.

It has also been bad here too since sunday. I have flipped crickets numerous times, I only have 3 birds back and only 1 female is catching them.. yesterday we actually reached 50 but today we are back to 30 and snowing... repeat for the rest of the week and then rain on sunday.... I am putting crick...

I bought 24 of the wing entrapment protectors from the PMCA and finally put them on last weekend as part of my maintenance chores on my houses. I usually use the weatherproofing tape. I'll let you know how they do!

John I'm glad you showed how you glued the PMCA guards on, I was dreading screwing them into all my entrances. Now I'll just glue like you did.

clean the nests or the birds? if the nest material is wet again then yes I would replace with dry pine needles. I would not clean the birds. Do you have mites or blowflies that is causing these babies to jump prematurely? If so put a 1/4 tsp of sevin under the nesting material... Good luck.
