Update on the Hwy 903 Blackland roost, La Grange NC

This is a video of the roost here in Lenoir County, N.C. I try to go watch every day. It never gets old. You should go see a roost if you possibly can. Michelle, The photos are excellent! We have a roost here in NC and I have yet to get shots that good. When you find the roost, don't worry one bit about spooking them. Like Laverne said, they are not easily spooked and even if you do spook them, they'll fly up and then right back down in almost the ...

Hi, Don. I've been out of town and out of internet service so just now seeing this post. YES, it is an awesome sight. I have been to watch them every day that I can. It's just facinating. I watch them until they go down to roost. You can here them making faint roosting noises. Very sweet sounds for ...

I have a couple photos of the roost here in NC. It appears to be growing in size. After watching it every day for almost a week, I'm still in awe. It will be interesting to see what happens. Yes, the PMs are very busy eating insects and being "green." I finally got a video but it just doesn't do the site justice. You can't see all the birds swirling in some instances. Anyway, try to check it out! http://youtu.be/cLwQLN-GO4U

The corn won't be picked until the third week of August or so. By then, the beans that were planted after picking the wheat will be tall enough to support the roost. But, won't the PMs be gone by then anyway?

Yes! It's located in what we call the "Hundred Acre Field." Before they had roosted in the wheat, same field. We picked the wheat last week and now they are roosting in the corn, same field down from the wheat. I am in awe of the whole thing quite frankly. It is just amazing. The latitude,...

Please no apologies Emil! I am learning all along and I have figured out how to get the map. I followed Don Troha's directions from Bumbee's "2012 PM Roost Stafford TX" post.) I was able to see the donut form and fan out. :) Here's the link for the radar: http://vortex.plymouth.edu/nids.ht...

Thanks Emil, but I have to admit I was confused as well. I guess you were referring to the radar site Don has posted the image from. Don, I have attempted to use the plymouth.edu site but not to any real success. Is this the right screen? If so I don't know what the identifier is. Obviously I...

Staging area / Roost wake-up time.

The martins are back at the NC903 area. The flock appears to be even bigger than before. What time should I get up to see them disperse in the morning? Thanks.

Update on the staging area here in Lenoir County, NC. The martins were there again the next day but none since. They may have been gathering before I discovered them, I don't know. I went back that second afternoon to follow them but they never went anywhere that I could see. They left the power lin...

So many good suggestions and stories. The pain of losing the two eggs and the scare of it all has faded somewhat but not my determination to upgrade. Thanks for every one the comments. And, Good News...I caught the two sparrows building and laying eggs! Finally.
