Curious - where did you hear about this trap? There are youtube videos on it. Make sure you don't use too much bait. Typically I put a small piece of bread on the back only. Good luck!

Re: New landlord survey
Image-1 (1).jpg SW Ohio here and had my first two visitors for the first time in 7 years of trying. A female first and then 15 minutes later a male came. Checked out some of the rooms, circled a few times and then headed north. So I've finally had some visitors and that was an amazing feeling seein...

Re: Making a new PM house more inviting - odors?
Thanks for the tips! I have a new PM friendly house that replaced the old home built foam one. The foam ended up looking like swiss cheese with all the pellet holes. To attract I use Dawnsong, a small amount of mud and pine needles and two slightly "Owl worn" decoys sitting atop. I like yo...

Re: Making a new PM house more inviting - odors?
Good points! We definitely want to imprint a potential martin nester on a new nest site and not spread global plague and start a bot fly invasion. There is a very real possibility to spread pests and parasites that part would definitely have to be ironed out. I'm not thinking of sharing nesting mate...

Making a new PM house more inviting - odors?
Birds do not produce or respond to pheromones. However, it is proven that they use visual and olfactory cues to home in on a nest/roost area. As a new landlord trying to attract PM's I use pine needles and a bit of mud here and there to increase the visual attractiveness of some of the compartments ...

Re: Dawnsong played from solar panel charged battery?
The inverter will use too much power. You could get a solar charger from harbor freight - http://www.harborfreight.com/15-watt-solar-battery-charger-68692.html Pair it with a small lead acid battery from tractor supply or amazon. Power your device from a 12V adapter. But I think your CD player will ...

Re: Trapped sparrows
In the spring if you remove a sparrow another will take its place. The males are lined up ready to snatch up prime nesting locations. So it is not the trapped ones returning. Sparrows simply do not have homing capabilities like other birds. If you dispatch - which if you are into conserving purple m...

Circling back to the topic to share some additional info. I chose the Beeman R7 .177 because it is known to be quiet, lightweight and very accurate. I got mine without iron sights and sometimes for up close shots I do miss not having them. I had a cheapo Walmart scope on there and it was OK for a wh...

My Sparrow Control = Beeman R7
So far I've had good success this year keeping the male sparrows under control and away from the PM house. I oriented the TRIO pioneer PM house so the side is facing my house. This way I have a clean shot to any sparrow perched and calling a mate - and I will not put pellet holes into the PM house. ...

I've tried pellet guns, elevator traps, funnel traps etc. to control sparrow nesting. I found the best success when I added a male sparrow song. I actually made a parabolic microphone out of a WOK cover and drove around the neighborhood recording male sparrows singing. To capture lots of sparrows I ...

As an Update to this house - it has held up to the weather reasonably well. The pole has a slight tilt now due to the rough winter we had. It is a favorite for nesting sparrows and not a favorite for PMs as I've never had any nest or visit. The thick foam may also maintain high temperatures in the s...

The house I moved into had a large antenna on the roof. I took that down and recommissioned the pole. There were also a couple of T shaped poles for hanging laundry. I chopped one of them up and it is now the pole that is secured in the ground with concrete footer as the main pole with cleat. Hint -...

Foam and hotglue PM house
Finally moving into a house from a condo late spring I was able to put up my first PM house. Instead of buying one I thought I'd try making one out of materials like sheet metal, foam, and hot glue. Anyway, here are some photos to share. Not 10 minutes after hoisting it up the pole the sparrows move...
