Re: OMG, OMG, OMG It just happened to me!

Sorry to hear that Okey. I have the Excluder IIs, which I modified a little, and so far, after 6 years, not one starling has managed to get in. However, this year, 2017, March 24, and still not a PM in sight! I had 5 nests last season, have never missed in many years, but so far, NOTHING. I've never...

That's wonderful Jose! I know your wife is so relieved that you are not pacing anymore!!!!! I'm looking out my shop window a lot more. April 1 has been the day for my first siting so I have a while. Good luck! :) taxi-lady, APRIL FIRST? I don't think I could wait that long each year to...

Re: Members List or Private Messaging

You guys may notice that I end each of my posts with "Larry from western Kentucky" 8) I don't give my last name but do let people know approximately where I live. Others on this forum might also give their general location as well. Just a thought!

Re: How High the House?

Thanks John, and yes my houses are in opening away from any close trees or buildings. As I age, I am more reluctant in climbing very high on a ladder to clean out a room. Would love to have pulley system, but can't really afford them, since I have Musselman houses in good shape. I really don't think...

How High the House?

IDEAS ABOUT HOUSE HEIGHT I'd like input from you guys about height to the bottom of your houses. I'm thinking of lowering mine to 7 or 7 1/2 feet so I can access them using a step ladder. They are presently about 9 feet high and being on a stationary pole difficult to clean out any sparrow nests. Th...

Re: Request for help on this website

I bought from this site last year without a problem, perhaps you could try another email. Their phone number on Google Map is the same as the one listed on this site.
Good Luck and "Happy Hosting!" Larry in western Kentucky.

After having modified my doors, as seen in the photos, I now have to worry about "wing entrapment". Can anyone please enlighten me on how best to add the necessary modifications to help reduce this problem? Since using these new doors, I've experienced one temporary entrapment which was re...

For those of us without necessary material to build a Sparrow trap, if you have an unused Bluebird house, attach it to an iron fence post in the middle of your back yard, facing away from the back of your house. Then.....after dark, when the sparrows have gone to roost, slip out there with a plastic...

DornCounty -- Yes, I guess I just got too nervous after putting up my house with the new doors and no martins stayed, or entered very many times, before flying away. My BAD, I guess  But....after modifying the holes, at least now some are staying and spending the night, and seem to be navigati...

Yeah, Mark, ty for your advise a few days ago -- I have another M12K which I have remodeled 6 x 12, and have 6 more Snyder doors on them. If I continue to get more PMs, I'll rework those doors like my first ones, and put up the second house. PMs seem to have a much easier time of getting into the mo...

I copied: http://www.uhcl.edu/portal/page/portal/EIH/video and then opened my Chrome browser and pasted, video came up fine. Guess EI browser is getting too old! Lens seemed a little foggy or dirty, but still a fairly good live fed!

V I S I T O R S

Saturday I had a Mr & Mrs Starling stop by to check out my new Snyder replacement doors; they both tried several times (half-heartedly) to get in, finally gave up and flew away. Haven't seen them since. Sunday -- two pairs of PMs investigated my house, and one pair has stayed all day, entering t...

UPDATE ON MY SNYDER MODIFIED SREH DOORS

Three days into my modified doors -- still no PMs; however, did have a Mr & Mrs Starling stop by for a look. They attempted getting in several of the holes without success and finally flew away -- to try another day I'm sure. I don't know how hard they tried to get in, but I know they didn't, so...

Gen 4 -- I too, used sand paper around the inside of each cutout door to smooth them down.....BUT.... I DIDN'T LICK 'EM! :P I also modified the hanging part of the new doors -- I found the smooth nuts at the top of the door inside the house tended to keep the new doors from slipping into place...

Antony- I too, worry about the 'rod thing' in the remodeled rooms, thought about putting tape over the rod and bottom of the door opening, but didn't. If I don't get PMs to stay, I'll not have to worry about that anyway! I have a second box I have not put up yet--it still has the original Snyd...

Too cold here in Ky to be working on PM house outdoors, but.......I took what I hope will be good advice, and modified my Snyder SREH doors. I'm going to try to upload my photos of the doors and also some weather stripping over the door springs in front and back of the doors. I've done about all I c...

Hey Doug -- Glad to hear you know Mr Snyder and his history of experimentation with the different holes. TY for the info on changing the pips just a little. I had wondered if I could modify them slightly w/o changing their effectiveness against Starlings. Various Starlings have attempted unsuccessfu...

Thanks to everyone for their advice concerning the Snyder SREH replacement doors. After watching Starlings visit my house on a daily, early morning/late afternoon, bases, I'm going to hold off replacing the new doors with the original keyhole shaped ones for a few more days. It would be devastating ...
