My wife and i were out in the yard cleaning up a bit and she said " i hear a martin"...she was right, he circled around a bit and came in to my oldest box to check it out. I forgot how much i missed their beautiful song!

Hey Doug,

I hope it warms up soon too, earliest i ever had them here was 22 march. I put all my houses and gourds out this past week and am pretty much ready... really starting to look forward to their return.

Warm South winds next couple days should help us Pennsylvanians numbers...at least I hope so.

I saw my first martins 4 April....27 degrees this am, i saw five sitting on the houses a bit ago and they look rough. I have food on the platform,some are visiting it but not all. Hope they can hold on till midweek...weather looks to moderate a bit.

Hey Doug, I here ya and can definitely relate, its not much better in this end a PA, last couple days have been miserable for the martins. I too have been loading up my platform with mealworms and they have been really taking to it so I no they are hungry. This week looks much much better for them s...

A huge wave arrived here today as well. I almost couldn't believe it when I got home...martins all over all my houses and gourds. My numbers have been way down when compared to other years this time. I am soooo happy I was really starting to get concerned.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing, my birds showed 12 days later this year when compared to last year, I'm still light in numbers compared to last year this time. With the weather forecast this week I think this will be a good week to load up on arrivals.

It's been a tough week here too, I checked my houses and gourds yesterday and found two dead ASY males, this past week was rainy and cool almost all week, I have mine that they will take platform food but some just won't go to it and eat, the week ahead looks a little better thank God.

I am seeing the same increases here in southern PA, had quite an increase over the last 4-5 days still all ASY birds, have not seen any SY birds at my place yet either.

Its not much better on this end of PA either, I have 4-6 birds back now and they have been spending the entire day in there boxes, I keep the platform stocked with grub, I hope I can get them to the end of this week, weather looks much better then.

There is a guy in our area (Jack Hubley) that does wildlife spots on our local news, I have been emailing with him to put something similar out this summer locally here. My hope is to generate some interest, they need our voices!

Got things started in this end of PA the 23rd ,an asy male and female showed up ,seven days earlier then last year. Good to see em back....weather has been pretty good lately. Good luck to all for a successful season.

I had a great season again last year, my colony gained 14 pairs and my hawk problems seemed less than the year prior.
