Re: Typical killing upper level low in PA
Thanks Doug for feeding the birds passing threw. I'm sure you saved a lot of birds for the northern landlords. I'm in New York Watkins Glen and I have been feeding my birds for 7 days straight. I have about 40 martins and I've lost three so far. I'm sure some of my birds will be moving on also. Keep...

Re: Western New York Arrival
Your Martin probably will stay there until it warms up. You need to get some crickets and scramble some eggs and put them on the ledges of the gourd he's going into or on the housing. If not you will not survive in this cold weather. I will put food out about three times a day. Where are you in West...

Re: May white out!
Sue, I'm not so sure about putting them in a cage doesn't sound like a good idea. I would call The purple Martin conservation society and talk to them about it and if you can't get a hold of them try calling Andy troyer.

Re: May white out!
So if your birds are all Piling into one nest now that's a very dangerous situation. What is your weather supposed to be like tomorrow? I feed my birds by putting the eggs and the crickets on The ledges of the houses. Keep a close eye on that nest where they're all going in because if one dies on th...

I have been using 90 degree tunnels for 7 years now and my Martin's love them. I'll try to attach a photo of my colony.

Re: 45 degree tunnels
I have had excellent results with 45 and 90 degree tunnels on my super gourds and horizontal gourds. I have been using them for 5 years now and the Martin's prefer them over any other housing. I think you'll be very happy if you use them, I also got my 45 and 90s from Lowe's.

Re: Martin update in upstate NY
Ed, I'm pretty sure that they're all still alive but I won't know for sure until I check the nest on a warm day. Somebody had to be feeding these birds in order for them to make it here with this bad weather. We're lucky we got good landlords in Pennsylvania. Keep trying to feed them and usually the...
