Are the subbies here in Ohio running late this year due ?
This year as I attempt to establish a colony it seems that the subbies are late.I usually can draw in some martins thru usuage of the chatter cd but only one on a rainy day stopped by.(believe other colony bird)I notice the other sites around me(within 2 miles)seem to have less birds.I 've been blessed only three times in recent years to have martins. Each time I've had one pair .The first pr eggs disappeared.(thinking snake)The second pair had three fledging and never came back the next year(blaming mortatlity)The third pair was last year and they laid eggs but I had a pesky sparrow(tried traps)and I made the mistake of fighting the sparrow with traps/nest pulling then decided to close off all but the nesting martins hole.I might as well drew a bulls eye and eggs were found on the ground broke.Martins left.I 've got a poor site and really have no choice to the site for pole.(on neighbors land across the street)Those up here if you can email me about how your colonies are doing on the subbies. I hope and pray someday I will have martins. bvhull@aol.com

I am new also.
One adult pair in 2006,fledged 3.
5 martins perished in the april freeze last year ,then had 3 pair, adult pair made 2 nest but never laid an egg. 2nd pair fledged 3 and lost the female from pair 3 and the male abandoned the nest ,one dead baby and 2 unhatched eggs.
THIS year one adult male that couldnt find a mate ,so he moved on.
NOT a sign of a SY here or at the 2 site's i monitor in town.
