Actually I found that pretty easy,I saw pics of Astrids place here on the forum and saw she lived near the water so I just thought of things that would live near water and the first thing I thought of was water lizard so Water lizard scat was the first thing I looked up and there it was. Astrid, so glad this mystery has been solved and he's not a threat to your martins. What a cool animal to have in your backyard. It would be fun to have a camera with motion detection to try to capture him on video!

It was an entertaining and educational weekend. You presented an issue that has been thoroughly examined, dissected, researched, editorialized, comedianized, politicalized, summarized, and finalized. Since the Horned Lizard (Texas Horned Frog) does not normally feed at night you may at some time get acquainted. A sighting of the lovable little critter would forever close the case. We have many creatures around us that leave the little droppings. I have frogs and lizards that come to my pool all the time and leave droppings (o.k. poop) everywhere. I had the same reaction as you when I first started seeing this and could not believe frogs and lizards could leave such a size but everything is bigger in Texas!
I am talking to hubby about this.... I am trying to figure out where the best spot would be to put a camera, probably close to some little ant hills. I could mount it on the bottom of the pole nearby....I hope I "find him/her" soon
Thank you for your comments about this weekend being entertaining and educational and all the other nice remarks. I did learn quite a bit researching so many different sites and suggestions, and got many, many good laughs at the same time Hopefully, I will be able to take a picture and post it soon.
I am glad to hear you also got a good laugh out of the post I guess as you said everything is bigger in Texas. I could not believe the size of that "fecal matter" even thought this THL is supposed to be between 5 and 8 inches long.....still

I have a new hobby....looking for my friend so I can take a picture. Initially I was so worried that this poop could be from a potential predator to the martins, but of course now I am relieved and happy to know what it is and that we all had that much fun together....I will post a picture as soon as I have one....I am on THL patrol....

I'm no expert about frogs/toads etc., but that would be a very good option if one had their choices. It would make sense that a frog or toad may eat dropped insects etc. if the martins were feeding young. Seems a little early for that.
