Has anyone heard if these big roosts on the east coast survived the hurricane? or were the birds able to fly west and get out of the path? I sure hope so.

Also are there any birds there now at the roost? As some had just taken flight
as the storm landed in the northeast. And were flying south right into
the storm. I am glad it was not that bad. Barn swallows numbers are
building and they did just fine here threw out the storm. SO i would guess
any local Martins did fine in the north.

I don't know for sure but I would think most of the NJ roost would have left before the storm.
The winds were really not that bad here and there were periods without any rain, most of the heavy rain fell between 4pm and 11pm Saturday, the roost is only 35 miles east of my place. A top wind gust of 73mph recorded in the Delaware bay 8 miles north west of Cape May, 15 miles south of the roost.

They had already left their roost in New Bern under the Hwy 17 bridge over the Neuse River. I got all 72 of my gourds down on Friday morning before Irene started to hit that afternoon. I'm glad I did, that was the worst cat 1 I've ever been through. It just lasted forever, not much wind damage to homes here, but an unbelievable amount of downed trees on homes. The storm lasted 8 hrs with heavy rains and the trees just couldn't take the long duration.
Both of my racks survived, and everything is cleaned up for next year!

Ray and Allan, thanks for letting us know how things went. I'm glad you are ok and no major damage to your homes... I'm glad the martins had already gone.
