August 13, 2016: The Lexington roost has returned to the woodlot adjacent to the WKYT News station building on the east side of town. WKYT is located on Route 60 just west of the intersection with Man-O-War blvd. Thousands of martins poured into the north end of the woodlot flying in from the ENE. The show was over by 8:50 pm. About half of the roost consists of starlings. Coordinates for the roost are 38 02 25.6 and -84 24 12.8

Thanks Scott! I may head that way one night! Sad, half of it is starlings.

There's a ring on Paducah radar in the morning. Southwest of Paducah near the Mississippi river. Anyone close enough to investigate that one? It was there last year also.

Thanks for the confirmation of this roost Scott! Lots of Purple Martin's. I've witnessed roost before and the birds tonight never circled above. They came in from their journey and never hesitated to just drop out of the sky and land. I hope to see this one morning. The reason it shows up in the morning so well on radar is that they all seem to take off in large groups. Awesome sight tonight. I'll come back and have plenty of video to edit for a nice video.

Judy, I hope you find the Paducah Roost. That's another one too far for me to chase.

Good deal Larry! I'm glad you were able to visit the roost. The birds behaved in the same way the night I observed it; they flew right in to the woodlot without any impressive aerial acrobatics or swirling masses.
