Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

Congratulations to all us Purple People, especially you, James Gramke! I had a feeling they would show up early this year. I do not expect mine (here in Alvin, Texas) until Feb. 1. But, that is just 5 weeks away. I better get busy! :roll:

I was at work this am and heard a purple martin, we kept working and I heard it again then we saw him flying around. This is the earliest I have ever seen a purple martin in Henderson Louisiana. If I remember right the earliest before now was January 18th.
