Any landlords around the Denham Springs area? It seems as though the martins are slow showing up in my neighborhood this year as compared to last year. Was curious if anyone found their birds arrivals behind previous years. Watching the scout reports, it seems as though I should see quite a few martins by now.

Thanks, Krista

Krista,

I live in Watson and I have not seen any around my house. I had a 2 room house with 1 pair last year and the chicks died from getting wet. This year I put up a 8 suite from waters edge so that will not happen again. I am worried about the pair not returning because of the failed nestlings. But I have not seen any others either. I just installed 2 PM decoys on the house to see if that helps.

Let me know if you see any return and I will do the same.

Good Luck,
Dale H.

When I put my gourds up late last year I put two PM decoys on it. I noticed i was getting a lot of flybys and no landings or inspections. This was well into laying season. One day I decided to remove the decoys and within two days i had birds landing on the gourd racks, the gourd porches and they were going in and out of the gourds all day long. I'm guessing it was a coincidence but wanted to put that in your mind in the event you see birds flying around your houses but not coming in to them. If that happens maybe remove the decoys to see if you get some birds to come in like it happened to me.

Thanks for the heads-up I will keep an eye out for that. I'll be sure to let you know what happens just to see if this is not a coincidence.

Thanks for the reply,
Dale

Hi Krista, I live in Denham Springs off Juban. I had my one male of 3 years come in on Thursday, 2 weeks early. I have noticed a drop in Martins last year and have only seen 4 total 3 of which my male brought in this weekend 1 male and 2 females, only 1 female landed and went in a hole with my male today. Hope this helps, Mary

Plenty in my neighborhood, just at two other sites. I'm still waiting at my home and public park site. Hopefully the sub adults will come in soon. Krista
