Hi everyone. Hope everyone’s Purple Martin season is off to a great start. My first birds were about 20 days earlier this year than the past couple years. Previous years they have came on around March 20-22. This year they started arriving on the March 2nd. We had nice warm weather and a nice south wind here in North Ms over the weekend. My bird numbers doubled over the weekend. Somewhere around 20 now plus or minus.

I put up new housing this afternoon and literally within one minute martins were checking out the house and gourds. I now have three 12 room Heath houses and 15 gourds.

Good luck to everyone this season, especially to those new to Purple Martins and trying to establish new colonies!

Here’s a pic of the new housing this afternoon within 5 mins of putting it up. Still have to add a couple of perches above the house and a cap on top of the pole.

Wow! That's great, JMcM!!! I'm surprised at how quickly they took to the new housing. Congratulations! And keep those pictures coming. :)
