- Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!
Had to share a picture of my one legged purple Martin! He has 5 babies and feeds them just like all the rest! His determination to raise a family and do his job is a joy to watch! I’m privileged to have him at my colony! HE IS KING!

I don’t know but someone on the FB group has an SY male with one leg too! He lives north of me! So could be his off spring! I’m checking the rack tomorrow and will see if any of his babies has one leg. If there is a one legged baby or two then it’s been a hatch defect! It is nice to hear he is dealing with the living on one leg without much trouble. You are right it migt be a genetic thing or possibly an accident.
