Love these cameras. So too does the female. Can almost hear her: "I think someone's watching us, this is a camera" Him: "don't be silly, No ones watching, thats not a camera, now let's talk abou me."
Me on the couch watching the camera: oh look! Isn't she sweet????!!!! And smart too, she knows its a camera!

PS: Bumped this one up, needs to be said I think:
the design to hold the camera came from Mr John Barrow, he was the one who designed the camera extender and caps. It was his gift to me and our public site in particular. I sure didn't come up with it. I just think more should use them and show what they see to others to generate intrest.

Those females are very curious about the camera, she was inspecting under the porch too. How I did not have cameras for so long I do not know.

Do the infrared lights at night spook them at all? I know they only come on when you live view but that was a concern I had.

No, they don't. I'd imagine the interior is bathed in infra red light. Only reaction, and its slight, is at the camera activation. Its a low click. They look and then ignore. Iv never had them startle, try to get away from it or flush.
I used it near the sparrow traps last year after the martins left (that is a blast) and even put black tape over the infrared lights, but that resulted in black and white. Only tailoring I did was to the settings, ever time it catches movement its records. I switched it back to live view only.

Curious how long you've had the camera in there? I have Blink Cameras' on my home, being motion activated I would imagine the batteries would run down quick with all the motion inside.

Flyin-lowe,
Used them all season last year, did not change the 2 double a batteries. Continued to around oct to watch the sparrow traps. This season I tried messing with the settings, every movement generated a 30 second clip, so you can imagine the clips it saved and id imagine battery life is way down. But so far the blink system says my battery life is fine.
Went into settings to change that though. Now I activate just to peek. They are still a bit nervous, I don't activate when they first come in. Right at this moment they are asleep.
I'm trying to get our public site on board, so its something to consider there. No way a live feed would be supported by 2 AA batteries long. Maybe just some clips saved to a data stick, dont really know.

Yeah she's a looker Rob! He's a lucky guy.

They sure are nice Tom. Last year I placed them in auto for scout arrivals, then used them only to peek in. Batteries lasted the whole season and then some. This year I installed mounts in all 42 cavities to facilitate moving the cameras around with a quick snap off/snap on. That way I could monitor nests that need more attention. I also added one looking down each pole to capture critters testing the shock mechanism 😳. Then there’s the one in the blue bird house and the one off the back porch watching the pet deer my wife is feeding… Nah, we not hooked… 😂

Really cool CC, I bet there is a lot that can be learned from watching them in their nest.

i have mine hooked up to a solar panel because i wasn't sure if the batteries would last. it's a little more difficult installing because there is a cord, but it's not too bad.

Tomabear, all,

It is addicting! And oh yes, can learn a lot. Didnt know they slept on their feet. And on the inner porch, so can see how owls are sucessful at grabbing them right out. Lessons learned from last year, watched a knock down drag out fight between 2 males. Went on for a long long time cuz the poor guy couldn't find the way out. He was scooting around the edges of the nest. So I raised the level of material to just under the porches.

Feeding is fun, adults watch and make sure the food goes down and sometimes they push to the back to feed the younger chicks but the open beaks get the majority.

And yep, added a camera to a nest box trap starlings like. No blue birds here unfortunately. But can watch starlings and hopefully HOSP get trapped.

They are like a pringles chip....can't have just one.

Do you just leave the camera off unless you want to watch on live view or do you allow it to keep recording short clip after clip?

Yes sir, that's it exactly. Think that how those batteries lasted so long last year.
I do have a camera in (I hope) a woodpecker box. They have been nosing around, so set that one for clips. If they don't take to it, ill move it and use it for a starling trap. Just keep the camera in there.

I want to know how to mount a Blink type security camera inside a Troyer gourd that would use the lid and be transferable from one gourd to another. My crude Rubbermaid container contraption does not secure the camera well and is so embarrassing I won’t post pictures. Does anyone have a successful version?

s&k makes a nice extension tube w/ lid that will screw directly onto the troyer (or super gourd). if you are using batteries, it's simple, mount the camera inside it and screw it on. i am using solar panels so it's a bit trickier to get the cord in there. if they are verticals, it should not need any help keeping the gourd from tiliting, but on my horizontals, i have to bend up a coat hanger from the hanging rod to hook over the entry stub to keep it straight.

Does mounting it flat to the cap provide the proper angle or do you need to use the adjustment cone that comes with the camera?
