Checking out my colony today, I saw a yellow beak sticking out of a crescent entrance with WEP on the inside, and flush porch. . I was a little stunned that a starling was able to breach that combination. Went and got my gun, and Needless to say, I shot the female starling as she was squeezing out of the entrance, to escape. .. a porch shot from a 45 degree angle. When discarding , I could see she was a very unusually small starling. Glad she won’t be reproducing.

I had one a couple of years ago that was small enough to get through the conley 2 entrance. Fortunately it was fairly early in the year so I was able to trap it since it favored that one gourd. There are some small ones that are recently fledged that can get through. Once the martin population reaches critical mass the starlings and sparrow stay away for the most part.
