Martin Colony History: 9 years of trying hard...finally in 2017 I had 3 pair w/ 11 babies. T-14 +4 w/ 4 Troyer horiz. gourds. Troyer Super System 24. Fast forward to 2020... 64 fledged.

Hi, I'm working with a couple groups trying to establish their first colonies. I expected SY birds in our area by now but there are no reports. Anybody have any yet (May 9) ? Both groups are playing the dawn song but I want to give them the heads up that we have potentials in our neck of the woods so they are doing everything they can to attract. Thanks

Martin Colony History: :
2022 - 1 pair, 5E, 4H, 4F
2023 - 2 pair, 9E, 5H, 5F
2024 - 4 pair, 16E, 16H, 14F (2 more pair started nests but failed due to weather/loss of mate).

i'm not too good at ID'ing the females, but it seems all of mine are not ASY. I believe I have an SY male now. it is hard to tell, only a few purple feathers on his neck, but i'm almost positive. i'm near buffalo.

Martin Colony History: Several colonies with in 6 mile radius.
Have had visitor every year 2014-24.
Two large trees removed in fall 2024 and moved T-14 to a more open location.
2025- 1 SY pair. Fledged 2.
2026- no pairs. One daily SYM here daily. Named him Riggs!

I had my first martin of the year visit 2 days ago. An SY male. A second bird was with him yesterday evening. Couldn’t ID that one. I’m sure the SY’s were at neighboring established colonies earlier. But this was the first one here.
Bellefonte PA
2014, 1st year-a few lookers, no nests
2015-23. Visitors each year. But no pairs.
2024- most active year. 2-4 SY male’s hang out most days.
2025, 1 SY pair. 2 eggs, 2 fledged!! Other martins visited daily.
Still eliminating starlings and sparrows.
