I neglected to really tighten up my snake guard and a big corn snake got all the eggs in one of my 2 trees of 12 gourds each. The birds came back for a month or so but now have all migrated to the other tree on my property. I have checked the gourds multiple times and there are no snakes. Seems like daily a large group of them will descend on the snaked tree and seem to be looking inside the gourds presumably for snake but then they fly back to the other tree. I did find 2 dead birds on one gourd but have cleaned them out.

Any thoughts? I feel so bad loosing half of the babies in my roost. Next year the roost will be 20 years old started by a previous neighbor. He moved 3 years ago and talked me into taking them since the purchaser was going to have them removed. They have given me so much joy! One tree, the empty one now, is right in front of the Hot tub so I used to love to have coffee in the morning and watch the activity.

very sad... any thoughts?
