I need adice from anyone who has started their colony with dawnsong and daytime chatter. This is my fifth year of trying to attract more than one pair of martins.3 out the 4 previous years I have had at least one pair of martins.Year one 1pr 3 eggs and all flegded,1 bacholor. Year two original pair did not return, but picked up a ASY male and subby female,6 eggs and all fleged and 3 bacholors. Year three, ASY male returned, only to follow a ASY female to another site a mile away,I watched him follow her,but picked up a bacholor that year and had no female for him. Fourth year, the bacholor came back and got a female and flegded all four, and taught them to eat crikets last year when we had some bad weather and had one bacholor hanging around a little but very little. This year the fifth year the ASY male is back and he came on April 19th and has been here ever since and has been doing great through the bad weather eating his crickets.I'm wondering if I should play the dawnsong and daytime chatter to help him,he even sings the dawnsong once in a while. Why is it so darn hard to get a female back.Tell me what you think I should do.By the way he spends every nite in his gourd and has not missed a one. Hi,
The first year I used the Dawnsong I got 1 pair. The second year I used the Dawnsong I attracted 12 pairs. This year with no Dawnsong I have approx 29 pairs. I would keep playing the Dawnsong until you have enough birds to sing their own. Are you playing it an hour or so before dawn? I played the CD from about 6:00am to 8:00am. According to the PMCA, I should have started playing it earlier at around 4:00am.
Good Luck!
Fledge on!

I played the dawn song and it attracted 1 ASY male. I quit playing it when he kept looking around for the other martins. I now have 10 pair and this is my first year. I believe he did the work for me; however, if your martin has been there for almost a month, maybe you should play it. If he starts looking around for other martins and you think it may be confusing him, you might just want to turn it off.

Lanell

Good luck!!!

After 4 unsuccessful years, I found this website, and upgraded my house to 6x12's and added 4 natural gourds below it and holes but 2 gourds went shreh. I ran dawnsong all along since in april and may
I got a pair of subbies last year, and 5 eggs, but not hatch, they were too immature. The male returned this year with a gal (same one?) and I have had dawnsong on all along.
This am. with a break in the bad weather, a pair (subbies) showed up and have been back several times.
I credit dawnsong for drawing them in and hope for more. With 2 pairs, I still am running it.
