Does anyone ever "periodically apply a coat of carnauba wax" to their PVC pole guard as the PMCA article on pole guards suggests?
I clean mine each year, but have never waxed them with any substance. I certainly don't want to compromise the safety of the martins by not doing this!

p.s. I don't have a clue what carnauba wax is!
carnauba wax to pole guard
The wax will slick'en the pole up make it harder for anything wanting to crawl up it. I also add fly tape and a band of grease to keep the little red ant's from climbing and bitting the babies. I lost a couple babies due to little red ants a couple of years ago before I figured out the ants were chewing on them. I have tops on my PVC that fit tight around the pole so they can't crawl up the inside and it they do get past the PVC cap the fly tape and grease adds another barrier. Cheap insurance IMO.

Yes, I wax my pvc every other week after cleaning any mud, etc. off.
Carnuba wax is car wax - look in the auto care section of Walmart or any other such store.
