4 days of very windy cold weather and with supplimental feeding has still taken it's toll,so far there is 25 dead and I fear that there will be atleast 20 more and alot of the parents are not even around anymore.I have gone through about 4000 crickets and some eggs and also about 10,000 dried meal worms and it still was not enough.I had 37 pairs and now it's down to about 20.So sad in Leroy Wi. Hold your head up high and concentrate on the pairs you have. There will always be good years and bad ones. Nature can be cruel but you are doing all you can.

Martin Colony History: Colony started in 2009 with 2 pair.
Currently I have 3 gourd racks with 24 gourds. One gourd rack will be for sy arrivals only.

I am so sorry to hear about all of your lost martins. It was a very bad weekend indeed. Boy, with all of that supplemental feeding you did, you should not have lost any. Can't fight mother nature, can we! I lost my one batch and still have a batch of 5 eggs in a gourd. Am glad they hadn't hatched yet or I am sure they would have not survived either. I saw both parents from the lost nest tonight. Don't know if they plan on trying a re-nest or not. It looks promising. Good luck Tony.

Unfortunetly same problem here in Michigan. Out of the ten years having the colony never seen anything like it. Thirty martins found dead this morning and only 2 were still alive.

I agree with Stan, nature can be cruel and seems this year has been hard on the martins, at least in parts of the martin territory. Things were starting out good, but took a turn for the worse. Lets hope and pray next year is a better year.

Tony, that is such depressing news. I know how much time and all the extra care that you put into being a martin landlord. I hope the colony you take care of at the marsh does not have as many losses.
