It took a while to get this done but the stars finally aligned just right.

For those who weren't around a few months ago, one of our members here, Jangly, offered this T-14 to anybody who would come pick it up. He built it and did one hell of a job on it. I happened to be near him at the time so I went and picked it up. I promised Jangly and others I would post pictures of the install so here are a few. The pictures will be in a few posts to follow this one.

This is the sleeve I used. The hole is 3 feet deep. The sleeve is 5 feet long.

Once I got the sleeve cured, I put the bottom half of the pole in it. My son welded these collars on it to keep the pole from sliding in too far. These collars are resting on the top edge of the sleeve.

Then I put the top half on. This thing weighs a ton and it was a struggle by myself but I prevailed. I put the carriage on the lower half prior to adding the top half. My Trio Wade is in the photo as well. Not sure what I'm going to do with that yet.

And here we are. all assembled, raised to the top and pre-nested with pine needles and Sevin Dust. Just waiting on some takers now. The second photo is the distance between the Gourd Rack and the T-14. I hope you enjoyed the show.

Hello Coolwhips
May I say very -very nice. And do I ever like your wench extension arm.. That's a plus in its self for safety.
And ease on ones back.
I feel all Martin company's should have this feature for safety. Going to build me 4 :) About how long is the wench arm Thanks.

Again very nice Whippy thanks for sharing.
Later and stay safe.

I am really liking this house and for free what a nice gesture that was. Always enjoy the photos I wish more people would post them. I find your distance interesting and wonder if they'll even use the house this year.

SS,

Jangly is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet if you get a chance to meet him be sure to take it. He moved from one house to another and he took this T14 he built with him. I felt very honored to have received it from him as well as felt sad he decided to part with it. He is very passionate about Martins and knowing that he won't be in his current residence for very long he decided not to start another colony as he would have to uproot them as well.

The distance is due to what I had available to work with. There is no scientific reason rather I just put it where I could. If I remove the Trio chances are the 2 pair from that will move over to the T14. They have not returned yet so I may remove the Trio. The reason those two are so close is I originally planned to remove the Trio but also thought about leaving it.

That was the plan but now I'm not so sure. The reason for my hesitance to remove the Trio is that the two ASY males in the Trio dominate it so I figured they would run off others into the T-14 right next door. But I'm sure they'll pop over there and fuss with them over there as well since they are so close. Who knows.

I'll probably remove it tomorrow.

2021......to be seen.
24 natural gourds on a satellite rack,9 other gourds scattered around
2-12 compartment trio houses
Rarely see a sparrow or starling, but when I do they don’t last long!
Will have a second satellite rack for the 2022 season and phase out the houses, the martins here strongly prefer natural gourds.

Good job whippy looks really good. You oughta think about just leaving the trio man,it’s enlarged and all and raises . Let em squabble . I think you’re gonna have good luck with the new 14 ,what a great “free squirrel” to fall in your lap! Keep us posted on any occupancy of the new 14.
For those of you wondering what in the world is a free squirrel is.........it’s when you slip up on a squirrel and at the last second before shooting it you spot a second one and get that one too,it was free. When you catch a bass on the side of a cypress tree and then throw back in on the other side and catch another on the other side of the tree you didn’t expect, that’s a free squirrel also. When something falls in your lap unexpected and un pursued for free, that’s a free squirrel. Thats today’s coonass culture French terminology lesson. Know what lagniappe is???😂🤣. When you shoot at the lead teal in a flock and several more fall also, those are free squirrels.😂😂🤣

Whip,

I only made the comment about them using it because I put up a new house this season about 12 feet from the older housing and have yet to have a single bird occupy it. They are clearly drawn to where everyone else is and the social action going on. I have seen birds land on it but then quickly fly over the the other gourds and house. I have a feeling the sub adults will use it and that would be perfect.

Hopefully your gourds fill up and they’ll have no choice but to inspect and realize they should have checked it out sooner.

I'm with you on that.

I have plenty of cavities now so I'm probably going to stay with this set up from here on out. The final push I make will be adding 8 Troyer gourds to the T-14 but I have no need for that right now. I'll most likely do that next year just to do something. I have 24 gourd cavities and half of those are available based on last years occupancy. There is no question that the high activity at a location draws more and more. SY birds will most likely start up the T-14 occupancy this year. That's my hope/guess.

Coolwhips! Looks great, man! You have quite the setup there!

I'm honored you're going to put that house to good use. Like I told you when you were here, I hope you get so many birds that you can barely hear yourself think when you're outside!

Thanks for the kind words, brother. Good luck, and keep up with the pics.
