Came home from lunch today and just as we rounded the last turn into our house was surprised to see about 12-14 martins circling and diving at the martin house and gourds! They stayed around for about 5-6 minutes then left.............

That's great Aaron. It's been so long since I saw one here I've probably forgotten what they looked like. I think one more visit would really "tie me over" till the spring. I got a feeling you're going to have a big season next year. Put up plenty

Hey Al,
I'm planning to offer about 16 additional gourds for next year (maybe 22) if I get rid of the S&K barn!

My birds (all except hatch of year), keep coming back every few days, this time was sunday am and they all landed on the house and chirped for a few minutes and left. The babies have been out since July 15, but, mostly, they land up high on my neighbors' short wave antenna, which is their post-fledge daytime staging area up until about 10 days ago.
They are now roosting at a local roost that we are trying to locate, but, I think sunday's visit may have been the last.
I wonder if this is part of the ritual of the colony--flying from roost back to nesting area and this organizes and practices the team (like Geese do)for the big flight that is to come?
Also, I wonder if there isn't some "fall recruiting" and housing familiarization going on?
