What radar is best?

The radar I have used for years, to find roosts, has changed it's format. What radar has anyone found to best find the roosts? Thanks

Re: Status of Martins in Virginia

I am in Fluvanna County and most of mine have left! A few late ones but had full occupancy. Now looking for good radar to find roosting sites.

Any big roosts yet?

Sadly, at least half of my Martins have left. Seems early to me. But am wondering when they start their big roosts. I really need to see one this year! Thanks!!

Too funny for us humans! I grew up on farm. I cannot tell you how many times my Dad tricked, or tried, us kids with electric fences. If the pole is out from the electric source, is the power from solar? Work on metal or wood poles?

Learned my lesson!

Never thought I had a snake problem. Until I was doing nest checks and one was sticking out his tongue. Got the eggs and a parent dead, trapped in doorway. Got my long grabbers (for us older folks) to get him out of gourd. Went next morning and got my netting and zip ties. Used old wire coat hangers...

They sometimes swoop at my dogs and cats, but never make contact. Glad they are so protective!

When I did 3 hot air balloon rides, I learned horses, cows, and lots of animals can't look up so the sound of the burners scare them. Guess the birds have the advantage when it comes to hunting. Love nature!!

Too funny!

Living in the country is a blessing! I looked out the window and saw my young 6 point buck who visits my yard. As he wandered the yard the Martins started dive bombing him!! They never made contact but he jumped a few times. I don't know why the Martins felt threatened by a deer. Nature is a wonderf...

Will they renest?

Unfortunately, I had a gourd fall during a storm, losing 4 eggs. :-( Got it cleaned up and got it back up AND reinforced the others. I've seen couple still going in, but will they lay another clutch???

NO I'm not a lawyer! LOL It's my name and last initial... I figured since you had longer season, you all would have more than one brood. Thanks

Congratulations

Since you already have babies, do you usually have more than one brood from same pair each year? I was blessed with 2 broods from my oldest/earliest arrivals last year.

Great source for you up there.

My best friend lives on Cobb Island and she took me on a road between Buggs Creek and Amish area. There is a farm who sold gourds. This was many years ago but she tells me they still have the sign up. Check out the Amish community and let me know if you need more specific info. I can ask her the roa...
