Re: Grandpa MSS12 - Anyway to reduce the screechy sound?

Same issue with my trio grandma - lot of metal on metal noise. I climb a couple steps up the ladder and guide it up the pole with my free hand the first few feet or so while pulling down on the rope to kill the noise. The last few feet, though, can be nails on a chalkboard. Haven't tried fixing it, ...

Re: Pulley system broke - help request

Haha - I haven't logged for a while and just noticed an old topic of mine had been resurrected. Happy to report I was able to take Mark's advice - got the replacement pulley and rope from Lowes last year and fixed it right up. Works better than ever! Larry - assume someone referenced you to this pos...

Sparrow spooker question

My female bluebird looks to have already completed egg laying. Is it too late for the sparrow spooker to go up? First timer here.

Thanks.

Watched them come in tonight. A little later than normal, but not much. Hovered over the yard for 5-10 minutes before finally coming in.

Hope they got their fill of insects today. Next few days do not look good..highs in the 50's and 60's with a 90% chance of rain each of the next 3 days.

You might be right. Today is sunny, and they must be out and about. Haven't seen them since I returned home from work.

Good luck to you, Bill!

Just curious...were you unable to put the gourds up a bit earlier? Will probably help your chances in upcoming years.

Martins acting different this evening

Typically my martins spend the evenings high above the colony eating insects. Today though, they've been flying much lower than normal, perching on the rooftop and telephone pole. I very rarely see this...they are staying close. It's been cool and rainy the past few days, and they should be laying e...

Nice. This site has really helped educate me as well in regards to nest checks and starling control.

Wife and I lived in south Nashville for about 6 years...not far from you!

First sub-adult has arrived!

Lot of activity in my small colony this morning. In addition to my 3 returning pairs, had a few others checking out the house this morning including an SY male. Got into a few scuffles with the resident ASY males, but nothing too crazy. He's a brave one trying to get into already occupied compartmen...

Thanks for your help. The odd thing is that I rarely see house wrens in my yard, and never once saw one on the BB box. I have, however, had sparrows land on it. They even tried to nest in it prior to me shooting the male which allowed the BB's to move in. Upon closer inspection, 1 egg is gone and tw...

Need bluebird help

Put up a BB box for the first time this year. Had a pair take the house and lay 5 eggs. I've kept the sparrows away for the most part, but was out of town this weekend. Just got back - the male is calling constantly while going in and out of the house...female is keeping a distance. Checked inside, ...
