Hi Lois, there are many methods to hang netting. I use flat 1 inch wide aluminum arms to hang mine. Hope the photos will help you.

Re: Martins 1/28/2020
Hey Dale, Great photo’s Dale. Here we are into the 2020 season finally. Congrats on your first Martin’s. I’ve trapped 2 Starlings so far. Are you keeping stats on these species again this year.? You probably have plenty of insects for your Bird’s to eat down there in Fla. It’s still rather cold her...

You're welcome Anthony and Dave. With the help of others I have gotten the weights to many gourds, houses and racks over the years.

Re: problem with break winch
The winch requires a minimum of 50 lbs weight to function properly. If you don't have the gourds on there is probably not enough weight.

Re: New landlord
Hi Steve, 16 cavities is plenty to start with. Some colonies do start with 1 pair while others such as myself managed to attract 2 pairs my first season. I have read where others have been fortunate enough to get as many as 7 pairs their first season but, I am guessing that was the result of a colon...

Re: AAA Rack Issue-Help
They can be replaced and they are $7.75 for 4 of them. If the PMCA Shop doesn't carry them you can probably get them thru Troyer's. I know a Vendor that carries them but, I don't believe I am aloud to say here on the forum.

Re: How Many Gourds on 2" Pole ??
In my opinion the pole will handle the extra weight but just keep in mind you're adding more wind resistance so when those thunderstorms are in your forecast play it safe and lower the rack to 8 or 10 feet and I think you will be alright.

Re: Clinger tunnel installation hole size
You can drill a 3' hole and the tunnel will cover fine. The T-10 in this photo has 3" holes behind the Clinger Tunnels.

My colony is at 13 nesting pairs, 69 total eggs laid and 33 of the 69 have hatched at this time. 1st Fledged Martins should be on or near 5/13/2019.

I have a set of Motion Activated Flood Lights that face directly at my housing and it doesn't have any affect on the Martin's when they come on.

Re: When to expect nest building?
Dale, your right on the money. Eggs in the nest by Easter! I lowered the gourds Monday following Easter to check the security of one of the gourds after the high winds we had on Good Friday. I only checked the one gourd and it had 5 eggs plus mom. She stayed put the entire time while I re-capped th...

Re: 4th Nest Check
Congratulations, mjfog on your Martin eggs. I did a nest check here again yesterday. To date my Martins have laid a total of 63 eggs in 12 nests averaging 5.25 eggs per nest. Of the 63 eggs I have one nest with 6 hatch-lings.
