Martin Colony History: Started in 1992 From neighbors old 1950-60's colonies. Have 8 Trio 6 Room Houses, 4 MPP Poles, 1 Heath Deluxe Gourd with Troyer Porch, 8 NatureLine Gourds with Troyer Porches, 5 Troyer Horizontals ,& 2 S&K 11" WITH Troyer Porches ready for 2019 Season !

Has anyone ever Copaired the weigh difference of all the Plastic Gourds available for sale ? My favorite ( especially in weight ) is the Troyer Horizontal. I always wondered how much those poles are holding up , when I hear about them caught in high winds.

Thanks Guys ! Great ! So how would you list them from lightest to heaviest ? For any Land Lord who might want to plan on setting up a Gourd rack and considering Gourd Weight as a factor, I do not have Gourd racks, II have 4 MPPs with 20 Gourds & 8 houses with ALL my openings facing S.E to get the Summer Coastal winds to help cool my PMs.Thanks in advance ! :grin:

I just weighed some of my new THG, PMCA SG and PMCA Excluder gourds. All have porches. They weighed 1.6 lbs, 2.4 lbs, and 2.1 lbs, respectively.

Nesting material will weigh around 0,6 lbs per nest; for 16 gourd rack one could have as many as 100 birds present, at, what is it, maybe 0.2 ounces per bird is 12.5 lbs of birds. My version of an Abare 16 gourd rack made from local aromatic cedar weighs 33.6 lbs.

I installed a counterweight system, and my counterweight weighs 96 lbs; the gourd rack and all components came in at 89 lbs. Answer to next question is I used a 3" round galvanized steel pipe. I don't want to be under it if it falls.
