late scouts and storms
our early birds were almost three weeks later than last year. makes me wonder if they are on some kind of a lunar calendar. Easter is late too this year. We had 5 go into cavities before the last three day blow, and 8 came out. No telling when those 3 extra showed up. There were 7 still hanging arou...

woo hoo! finally
along with spring (fingers crossed) two ASY males and a female arrived at our colony in in Rowlett Tx. I was starting to wonder about them. These ones seemed comfortable getting in and out of a lonestar goliad.

maybe a little off topic fish catches swallow on the wing
this link caught my attention.
Thankfully there are not any African Tiger fish in my local reservoir.
Also I'd have picked different music

Experimental wing entrapment preventers seemed to work
I installed 12 on a lonestar goliad. they all had to be somewhat modified to fit, but I experienced zero wing entrapment this year. Thanks, that was meaningful for me as I lost 4 adults last year in one cavity. I liked to pack it in after that. I still couldn't bring myself to open the north cavitie...

all fledged and gone, just in time
19 nests this year. The last 2 fledged out Tuesday and wednesday. just in time. I adult death, one hatchling dead and found a dead fledgling in the street. Otherwise no jumpers and though numbers were down, a good year and most were out before the oppressive heat, unlike the last couple of years. be...

pole maintenance
Hi Again, I got my lonestar dis-assembled a couple weeks back and before I pass it on I had some questions about the pole. I've left it in the socket for a few years and it really rusted itself together with the bottom pole section. I got them apart finally banging away at an piece of oak lying flus...

what kind of gourd rack is that John?
It looks like you don't have any trouble finding tenants.
I'm still in the deciding phase. Is that a 3 inch pole? Does
it use a ground socket or a stake?
Thanks Much John,
Bill

had some ideas
I'm no expert but from reading a bit... someone here had designed a vent stack with 3/4 inch pvc for a t-14. i thought that if you did that on both sides of every house unit, except make sure the vertical is 2" off the wall, then clip on sheets of aluminum could be attached when it was time to ...

one more question about this?
well two questions. I'm looking for lonestar goliad installation instructions now so I can pass this on. getting that ground pole out of this sucking clay was not easy for this old reprobate. dug as much as I could. You have to cut the clay off the shovel with a knife after each spadeful. Digging ba...

modified goliad with wing entrapment preventers.
these W.E.P.s needed to have the outer most edge modified. the hinge side I cut on a 45 and radiused with a 3" spindle sander to allow the door to close. the latch side needed to be cut back 1/4 inch too. I made a little jig to drill everything consistently and had to cut back the nest boxes a ...

how to dis-assemble a LONESTAR GOLIAD.
Hi Martin buddies. How in the heck do you get a lonestar goliad out of the ground? The lowest stake seems to be sunk in concrete and then the first long section slides onto it just above the winch. Danged if I can figure how to separate these sections. do I need to chisel thios out of the ground and...

these 3" rack system poles look to be about the same as my t-14 setup. though apparently not immune to high winds. Thanks flyin-lowe and chris. I found the other threads and will continue to investigate. m./stephens, I already have a taker which is one of the drivers for getting a replacement s...

want to buy a good gourd system
I want to replace a goliad which I've seen to many issue with and lost 6 adults because of a single wing entrapment issue this year. I was gone for two days and came home to this. Anyway i got the entrapment doodads and will attach them but plan to give the goliad away. Anyway, I have four horizonta...
