Re: ANYONE in MIDDLESBORO KY, EWING VA & HARROGATE TN AREAS?

If you go to the purple Martin scout arrival map and go down to select the states you can pick which state you’re interested in and then you can click on the year and put 2022 and it should give you all the purple Martin landlords in that tri-state area by state. I hope this helps you find the answ...

ANYONE in MIDDLESBORO KY, EWING VA & HARROGATE TN AREAS?

:?: Anyone successfully hosting PM colonies near the tri-state corner of KY, VA and TN, particularly in the areas of Harrogate TN, Ewing VA or Middlesboro KY?? We moved here a year ago and havent seen any PMs around. Trying to attract some now with newly put-up houses and gourds. Maybe its because t...

Re: Mites / Caring For Both Purple Martins And Pigeons?

Thank you Ms DebA! I do lay Sevin dust in the corners and crevices of the loft every after thorough cleaning. I also have the mite drops for pigeons. I can confidently say that my pigeons are free of lice and mites, 'till I basket them with other birds this racing season I just have to be vigilant f...

Re: Mites / Caring For Both Purple Martins And Pigeons?

Thanks Gents! Appreciate the insights. That's what Im afraid of.. as much as I want to put up another PM House.. Im afraid that the mites will make it to my pigeon lofts and ruin a racing season :(

PM are very good to have with the pigeons as they have outstanding Hawk alarm instincts!

Mites / Caring For Both Purple Martins And Pigeons?

Anyone here caring for both?? Couple of years ago i used to care for Purple Martins(PM) and had 3 racks of gourds for their yearly migration. Every time I did clean their gourds/house they always had bird mites. Specially when they're raising their youngs and fledglings. Hence I stop having them whe...

Gourds in the wind, with & without anti-sway rods

The gourd rack in the back has the anti-sway rods I installed, while single stack rack in front does not.

Joez, I just lowered my round pole half way and taped the bottom part of the sliding tube ..pix attached. I use a strong vinyl tape. I lowered mine just half way since I have about 19 fledgers in that round pole gourds. Storm will brush our coast tomorrow. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/membe...

HOUSE ADVANTAGE OVER GOURDS DURING FLEDGING PHASE

I learn something everyday.. I guess one big advantage of houses with porches is during fledging phase. I noticed that all four chicks are outside hanging out as they all learn to fly, while the ones ion the gourds, only 1 chick at a time could hang out :( http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/membe...

Do Parents bring food inside to less aggresive chicks?

I noticed these two aggressive chicks have their heads outside the gourd doors waiting for mom & pop to land and hand the food into their mouths.... Do the parents by pass them once in a while and bring food/feed the less aggressive chicks inside?? Thanks http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/me...
