Hurricane coming! help....

NC landowner here.

I have a circular pole that I will use duct tape to secure the my gourdes lower on the pole.

But, I can hear the chicks chirping. Can I lower the pole and duct tape what i need to without them jumping
/?

I am N of you near Va Beach! We are hoping it stays offshore, and if so, we should see only about 25 kt winds. You could see higher! Hang on and let us hear from you after the blow! Good luck!

2019 - 32 pairs at Raleigh site, 7 pairs at home site, 2 pairs at new Holly Springs park site

If they are used to you doing nestchecks, and if you go nice and slow and talk to them, they will probably be fine. Good luck, I hope the storm isn't too bad for y'all down there!

I just saw an update that looks like the Hurricane will track further W as it nears the Virginia coast. Our forecast calls for 40 kt winds now! Not good!

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

Lower the housing to about 4 or 5 ft, then secure it so that it does not twist on the pole. The lower housing will not bother the martins at all, they will use it without hesitation.

And good luck on the hurricane, I hope it is not serious.

Joez, I just lowered my round pole half way and taped the bottom part of the sliding tube ..pix attached. I use a strong vinyl tape. I lowered mine just half way since I have about 19 fledgers in that round pole gourds.
Storm will brush our coast tomorrow.

On Wednesday I knew the hurricane was coming, I thought bad weather would be here on Friday so was not expecting the bad weather that hit us early Thursday morning. I had all my racks and houses fully raised to the top. At 12:30 AM a thunderstorm came roaring in with very strong winds. In the morning I checked all my units and everything was fine but many trees had large limbs broken off and a very large tree uprooted not far away. I think the winds were at least 70MPH. I sure am glad I switched to all square poles.
