We still have some snow on the ground here in North Dakota, but my son and I went outside today and got the Purple Martin housing ready.

You have more ambition than I do. :) I dont put out my housing untill the martins are in my area, less hassle with starlings and sparrows this way.
I do have to say though, I dont have much trouble with them anyhow.
PMCA member and Martin fanatic....
2011 A pair of subbies fledged three young but none returned in 2012 :-(
2015 One Pair of subbies came and stayed a few nits but got chased away by Bluebirds and Tree swallows. :-(
2017 0ne pair of subbies nested and fledged 4 young
2018 Tree Swallows AGAIN chased away any martins that wanted to nest
2019 Same old story................ :-(

No, no this wasn't ambition. I didn’t have the house cleaned out from last year. In my own defense, I had a T8 compression fracture that was causing me pain so the chore was put off.

We, just south of Winnipeg are ready also. We are also awaiting your flood water, which can sometimes make access to our houses difficult ( ie by boat!) Grand Forks is two hours south of Winnipeg, Manitoba on the Red River. I hear it wasn't too bad for you this year. Very early, warm, dry spring here. Best Wishes

My Mother-in-Law and Father-in-Law are both Canadian. My wife has Aunts and Cousins in Winnipeg. We make it up there about once a year for either celebrations or just for the fun of it. We see Purple Martin landlords on the trip every time.
