 Our Purple Martin friends are without rebuttal a very fascinating specie having many unexplained activities and probably a multitude of undiscovered inbred or learned characteristics. PM annual migration is a phenomena that interests me. Even though I have thought of myself as a Purple Martin Landlord for several years, I am a novice who is held hostage every spring by anxious anticipation. My thoughts, dreams, activities, and most social contacts are colored purple. When will they be arriving? Am I ready? Where are they? Are they all right? Are they going to come back? What am I going to do if the weather is too cold? Damned old Sparrows and Starlings!! The only relief from this extreme stressful anxiety is the sight and unmistakable sound of that first circling or perched purple tenant. At 10:40 a.m. March 12, 2011 a beautiful sound pierced the morning silence as three purple streaks orbited their Northern home. Although there are still many daily landlord obligations, all is well on the home front. It is now time to crank the tiller and plant the garden.
