Hi all,
Scratching my head here.
I have three houses, each of which has 2 new clutches of eggs after the the previous birds fledged. How should I figure the percentages?
Treat them as additional cavities, ie. now each pole has 18 compartments instead of 16?
Wondering if there is a standard method for this situation.

Count them as new nesting attempts, but leave your number of cavities as is - other landlords have reported that after early nests fledge, subadult pairs will nest, thus two broods from the same gourd.
Couldn't Jim count that 2nd clutch/nest as a new pair even though it is in a previously used gourd since the parents are different?
Im also notice birds fighting for gourds where clutches have already fledged this season or died from draught in my case. I don't think and hope they don't lay eggs but I do think they want to live in that gourd for the rest of the season.

2008~(1st yr) 4 pairs, 11 to 12 fledged
2009~(2nd yr) 9 pairs, 41 fledged
2010~(3rd year) 11 pairs. 50 fledged
2011~(4th year) 20 pairs, 23 out of 23 gourds Martin occupied, 3 fledged, the rest died in the drought. (1 new Blue Bird, 3 BB fledged.)
2012~ 26 pairs, approx. 100-110 fledged

Thanks for the information and advise. Most of my 200 or so babies have fledged but with some new hatchlings and eggs.

By counting it as a new nesting attempt, that does not mean it is or is not the same pair - it's another nesting attempt. He can record male/female ages which could be same as or different from previous nesting attempt in that same nest.

I am happy to have two of these new clutches in our little colony. This may end up being our most productive year ever.
