Thats it! Thats the answer! David, You are a genius, It's been right there in front of me the whole time. I saw some 2 weeks ago, and the whole front door was gone! It looked like a nest box for a chicken. But it had martins nesting in it!

Hey Tony, this is just my best guess, but I think you're good the way you are. If you had so much interest this year, some of those martins are bound to come back again next year.

The key is the fact that you had interest. If your current setup wasn't good enough, they wouldn't have been any interest at all.

The way you describe your set up, it sounds like prime real estate to me. I think you just need to get that first pair to commit. After that, you'll have a colony in no time.

GOOD LUCK!

hi gobbler t;;;whenn i first moved here 10 years ago i had i pair of martins the first year in my m12k house in front yard only 10 ft from front porch but no trees within 50 ft;;didn't have no more martins til 2 pair late this year in tht same house;;i tryed putting up 2 new houses in my backyard in the most open area 25 feet from house and and 30 ft from trees and i never did get any nesting pair in them, though this would be a better location, still have plenty of lookers but think i will move those houses out front by the house that i have the 2 pair in this year;;i read on here the same thing about keeping your old house in place for a year until you have nesting pair in the new ones,,,i read it is important that you keep the direction of the house the same all the time ;;good luck;;;jr 2

Jerry,
You got a good point there, I never thought about that ether. If it wasn't good enough they wouldn't even stop much less hang around every day for 52 days.

jr 2,
That sounds like a good move for you. I believe I would too if I were you. Good luck with that.
