I just took advantage of the sale on products. I am buying a new pole, the last I will purchase as I still have one of four units that does not have a pulley system. I lost some near fledgling birds last year because I couldn't properly monitor during the bad heat in July in Michigan, at least 4 young within a week of leaving the nest. I think it was mites or blow flies that got them. Now I am complete with three 12-compartment houses and 18 gourds, all outfitted with owl guards, starling resistant entrances where possible, critter guards at ground level where needed, decoys--you name it. Boy, this hobby sure can get costly--but it's fun and exciting to know I am saving a species that in Michigan is declining rapidly. We have many martins on Barton Lake, about 14 one-house landlords and one other landlord beside myself with several housing units. How lucky we are! What are others doing about the bug problem and the heat?
