The male HOSP are abundant this year around my area. What is the best bait for a trap that will not attract desirable birds. And while I am asking how about starling bait as well.

sparrow bait
White bread is a good choice to start with. Chicken feathers are well liked by sparrows too, because they use them in their nests. Then there is always bird seed. Good luck. Annie

Hi, Robert! I've read that for HOSP, white bread is good, and for starlings, cracked corn. I didn't have any white bread handy so baited my PMCA trap with cracked corn and have gotten about a dozen HOSP. The bad news is that I also got a cardinal and several white-capped sparrows (all quickly released unharmed, unlike the HOSP). I'm going to get a loaf of bread to see whether that will be less attractive to the good birds. Good hunting to you!
