Close approach worries me
This guy was sitting on the edge of our garden's raised bed six inches above the ground. He let me get so close I could have touched him. Surely that is not normal? Hope he's OK.

- Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

He may have been collecting nesting material. There's a lot of that going on around here again today.
Edit: Beautiful photo. I think that may be the best close up I've ever seen of a male Purple Martin. He's gorgeous!!

No, the photo is not cropped. He let me get so close I could use the 'super macro' feature on my camera - that is only a couple of inches from the lens.
When I checked back a couple of hours later, he was not there. But, it is not normal for wild creatures to let us approach them that closely. I am still concerned.
