I have put porch dividers on all my houses this year for the first time. I have 6 babies in one compartment that will fledge in the next day or two. Should I remove the porch dividers so there will be room for all of them on the porch? The other two compartments on that level are uninhabited. Or, should I leave them alone and not lower the house anymore at this point?

If the nestlings are not too old (less than 22 days), I would lower the house as you do for regular 5 to 7 day nest checks. As long as other Purple Martins are not using the adjacent compartments, no harm in removing the porch dividers and giving them more room to exercise their wings as they grow. You might want to block off the openings to the empty compartments so the young don't go in there - just give them access to the porch and their nest compartment?

Im afraid it's too late to remove them then. They were born April 30th, so that makes them 23 days old. Will they just fly and come back to the same compartment?
This is only my third year as a landlord. The first year I didn't know much of anything except that I loved to watch them soar and hear them sing.
The second year was much more educated, but lost all my hatchlings due to the heat and drought. So, this is really my first success story. And, I'm thrilled!
