- Martin Colony History: Had a cheap plastic house on a weak pole under 4 large cottonwood trees for many years without any martins. Started reading the forum.
Cut down all the trees. Put up better housing. Then the colony went from 1 pair to 3 pair to 7 pair to 18 pair. I have been steady at 18 pairs the last 3 years.
Ten years ago I got my first breeding pair. Since then each year less trees. no house sparrows, all SREH. More martins

That is a beautiful T style house. It has to be the biggest I have ever seen. The weight must be tremendous. What is the weight?

- Martin Colony History: I moved to South Florida, from Delaware, in August of 2015.
I care for a 6 condo Sunset House as well as two Deluxe Gourd Racks, with 24 Chirpynest/Excluder gourds, along a canal in Pompano Beach, Florida.
At Quiet Waters Park, nearby in Deerfield Beach, I care for a Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 TVG's. I also care for a Deluxe Gourd rack with 12 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder entrances. I am substituting 6 Chirpynest boxes for 6 of the Conley II entranced gourds in 2026.
At another local park, Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, I care for a Trendsetter 12, 5 gourds rack with 60 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder Entrances and 1 Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 Troyer Vertical Gourds with Starling Stoppers over the Conley II's to keep out smaller starlings.
It's really a work of art. Beautiful job and very functional as well.

There are no solid walls on the inside of this house, so the house is not soo heavy. The house weights about 250 pounds. The post is 5"x5" X 16'. The house is constructed with 1"x3" and 1"x2" cedar board frame, screwed and glued. 4 sections, roof, center with 5 units on each end and two 10 unit section attached on each side of the center section. The outside is prepainted trim coil aluminum. The birds preferred other housing, the end of my dock and gourds. Only one pair nested in the big house and all four eggs were not fertilized so no babies from this house this year. Hope for 2013!
