Hello Friends
With much regret and sorrow I type this message from a hospitol bed having all day to think about it. I have been forced into situations that are out
of my control. I can no longer have my Martin Colony. While I hope to re-establish a colony later in the futue in a different locaion, I simply cannot move and store the large quantity of racks and gourds I currently have.
I would much rather a fellow enthusiast from this forum to gain from my unfortnate circumstances instead of losing all of it.
I have 5 rack's and 80 + gourds and all of the high quality. I have well over 4,000.00++. invested, not to mention a huge amount of time into my setup. I will take 2,000.00 obo with a portion going to PMCA if posible.
I have enjoyed this forum and can only hope to rejoin someday.

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

Same here Scott, you have done so much to help martins and other landlords, and I want to thank you. And for now, wishing you the very best of luck, and hope that you again can get started someplace, and that we can again visit on this forum..

Hey Scott,

I am so sorry about what has happened as you are an outstanding purple martin landlord and great friend. I have enjoyed our MANY talks on the phone and emails. I will also be forever grateful for your help after that terrible storm devastated my martin colony and you and other friends came to the rescue and helped get my housing back up.

I wish you the very best and please keep in touch when you can. Hopefully you will have another great purple martin colony in the future and you can share your knowledge on the Forum again.

Thanks again for being a great friend and purple martin landlord.

Martin Colony History: 2010-2014 located in Slidell LA. Gourd rack with 16 gourds. Max of 2 pairs during this short period in Slidell. Plenty of fledglings.

2014-present.. moved to Broussard LA. Same Gourd Rack but added a 6 room house (modified from a 12 room)

2020: after a long drought of nothing, 4 pairs and 4 nests, 23 eggs total.
6 fledges.

2021: 9 pair, 47 eggs
36 hatchlings
30 fledged

2022: about 12 pairs.. many eggs, all fledged.. only had one hatchling die.. probably because of our schnauzer. :(

2023: 16 pairs. So far about 60 chicks with about a dozen eggs to go.

2024: 13 pair. About 60 eggs
2025: 14 pairs .. 69 eggs.

Scott.. what city are you located? I'm in Slidell La. Maybe if you are close, I can buy some gourds

Martin Colony History: 22 year landlord, 14 at current residence..offering 9 racks and a homemade T-8 for 166 total cavities. 160 Pair in 2018 Racks consist of a Deluxe 12, AAA 16, Starburst 16, 2 K-18 Series, Super 24, 2 Gemini, Multi-purpose/two trio’s/4gourds and a T-8..Great hobby to be involved in..

Martin Colony History: I moved to South Florida, from Delaware, in August of 2015.

I care for a 6 condo Sunset House as well as two Deluxe Gourd Racks, with 24 Chirpynest/Excluder gourds, along a canal in Pompano Beach, Florida.


At Quiet Waters Park, nearby in Deerfield Beach, I care for a Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 TVG's. I also care for a Deluxe Gourd rack with 12 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder entrances. I am substituting 6 Chirpynest boxes for 6 of the Conley II entranced gourds in 2026.

At another local park, Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, I care for a Trendsetter 12, 5 gourds rack with 60 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder Entrances and 1 Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 Troyer Vertical Gourds with Starling Stoppers over the Conley II's to keep out smaller starlings.

GOOD LUCK to you Scott. You know we are all rooting for a full recovery and a return to at least some martin colony management activity.

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

My heart goes out to you. I pray that you recover and look forward to your future posts! I don't know how far you are from Gobbler T but what a blessing if your martins ended up with him! That would be a silver lining for sure. Hang in there.

Martin Colony History: Had my site up to 22 gourds of which most (+/-3) stayed occupied.
Downsized to 17 gourds due to back surgeries. Had 14 families in 2017 but did not do nest checks due to health. Feeling better in 2018 and hoping for a good year.

Scott, that is indeed sad news. From what your fellow forum members are saying you are well loved and will be missed much .I haven't been a member that long but sending up prayers for your fast and full recovery.

Martin Colony History: 2017 Had a lot visitors no Matins nesting, hoping 2018 will be different.
2018 Had 1 pair
2019 had 30 pair

Scott, I read your material on here for years and I am sure you have helped a number of people on here with getting Martins. I hope that you get well and again can start a new and better colony.

I am so sorry to hear this, Scott. I am in Louisiana, in the center of the state, and sad to hear we are losing you, temporarily. I pray for your speedy recovery and return to us soon. Robin's Nest for purple martins in memory of Mr. Bands. (Mr. Bands came 2010 from New Jersey as a 2 year old. 2011, he CAME BACK TO US, but found dead inside a cavity at start of 2011 season.) 2010- 53 fledged, 2011- 75 fledged, 2012- 109 fledged. Using 2 28 Trendsetter units.

Martin Colony History: Hosting Martins annually since 2003 in SE Louisiana. Five gourd racks, 64 Troyer Horizontal gourds with Conley II SREH entrances.

Scott, I hate to read this and can appreciate that it was a very difficult decision for you to make. Your quality setup being utilized for it's intended purpose rather than being stored or destroyed will make a huge difference for hundreds of martins.

Hoping and praying that you will be back to where you want to be even sooner than anyone thinks possible. Take care my friend and keep in touch.
