Let me know how you are doing in this thread?

How many do you have? vs last season?

How are things going?

I am at 4 regulars with 1 or 2 others that stop by. I had 6 pairs last season.

The town colony seems to be at about 70% of last season.

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

Ok. I have 11 now, 7 of them arriving one week ago tomorrow. I think I have 4 pair...so 3 extra ASY males.

Ended last year with 6 pairs...two of them were SY.

I am offering 20 more cavaties this year so we will see.

When they take off I am like the count on sesame street. One, two, three... All I do is look up and count.

Hope we both get some more girls!

Martin Colony History: 22 year landlord, 14 at current residence..offering 9 racks and a homemade T-8 for 166 total cavities. 160 Pair in 2018 Racks consist of a Deluxe 12, AAA 16, Starburst 16, 2 K-18 Series, Super 24, 2 Gemini, Multi-purpose/two trio’s/4gourds and a T-8..Great hobby to be involved in..

Past the point of trying to count them Andrew, an educated guess would be around 70/80.I've counted 50 plus just sitting out on the racks, but more are inside the gourds and the two trios..when I go walk underneath the racks, they flush out and the sky is full of them.. I'm probably where I was at this time last year.. :)

saw a couple of nests being built and mud brought in town. After todays survey I would guess 80% of last season, and don't think the subbies have arrived at all yet.

Watched them this evening Andrew, id say its more like 90/100...and no subbies yet..

I had a lot come in on Saturday. Last night, the sky seemed to be full of them. I tried to count, and I'd say I have somewhere between 25-30 individuals. Last year, I had 26 pairs so that'd put me at about 50% of what I had then. Many have paired up already, but with all the new arrivals I have no clue yet of who has a mate and who might be looking.

Not good news here. I had one pair at home last year and nothing yet this year. My home set up is less than ideal (trees), but I'll still try.

The PM colony project at the elementary school has seen no martins at this point. Battling sparrows big time. Kids at the school are excited, so really hoping to attract at least a couple this school year.

I haven't seen the number of birds around this year that I have seen in years past- yet anyway.
2000: 5 Pair
2001-20011: Moved. Too many trees. No Martins.
2012: Moved again. Starting over with 1 pair.

I hope so too. RB. Not only for you at home but those kids! How special for them to have martins in their world for just a short time before school is out.

I think I am up to 14 from 11. It was hard for me to count. Speaking of school...you all with lots of birds must have gone to a better counting school than me! English too LOL. ...than I did.
