Wondering if someone might could give us a little rundown on the Martin Fest in Finger Tenn. this past (Father's Day) weekend. Wanted to go but didn't get to. Did you enjoy it overall, were there things that the vendors showed that might be worthwhile or new, was there any shade at all. Will you be going back next year, you think. I really wanted to go, and next year I'm going to try harder to make it happen. I'm about 300 miles away one way. I am guessing it's a worthwhile event; please let us know about it if you can. Thanks, D.J.

Martin Colony History: Since 2012

Husband and I went. I thought it was a great time. Main event set up under a tent, but me, husband, Dee and her husband, and Tony (GobblerT) with his friend, all got us a shade tree on the other side of the colony and cooled it over there. Nice and breezy. :) Vendors: I was only there Saturday, so I dunno if there was anything different on Friday, but what I saw wasn't new to me. There was a guy selling NatureLine gourds, winches, traps... a table with various bird items, and a guy on the other end with a Lonestar Alamo I think it was... Our wonderful Larry Melcher was the speaker, and he showed us some neat-o signs he made to inform others about his colony; things to spark interest in the public... We also talked about possibly moving the date up next year to May? or so, so it wouldn't be so hot again... decision to be made on that later. Then we all shared a wonderful BBQ lunch, door prizes and raffles, and then hung out with each other til we wanted to leave. I had a good time, and we'll probably be back next year. It's not too far of a drive for us, just about 2 hours.

That was a very informative note from you, I can picture a little bit of what it was like now. Sounds like it was a lot of fun, and so Gobbler T was there too, now I'm really sorry I missed it. I think the idea of moving the date from June to sometime in May is as good one. Maybe around the middle of May, the heat can be a bummer in mid-June. Next year I'm going to be there if at all possible and plan on staying somewhere the night and driving back Sun. morning. Glad you went, and glad it was fun for all of you. Thank you for your reply, it is really appreciated. D.J.

Yeah I was there. I wish you could have made it. It makes for a real good time. Good food, good friends, great martins! It wasn't nearly as hot this time as it was the last time I went. Nice breeze made it alright. I was glad to get to meet Tiffeny and her husband. I thought the turn out was alright. I heard some talk that there wern't as many people this year, but I think they did OK. I hate I didn't get to meet ole Strech though. This is why I ask if ya'll meet somewhere, and how do you know who's who.
