I'd left my trap, unbaited sitting on my driveway next to the fence. Hadn't messed with it for over a month. This morning there were 3 young sparrows in it. Obviously one got in there and called to the others and they also figured out how to get in.
The reason for this post is just to re-emphasize to others the benefit of leaving one or two sparrows in there when trapping. The do serve to attract others.

2012 - 31 pair full house no more room at the inn.
as of 5/31 83 babies 63 eggs. Wound up with 173 fledged.
2013 - 35 pair around 200 fledged.
2018 - 80 pairs 420 fledged
I intend to live forever. So far, so good.

And to monitoring daily or putting trap in an inaccessible location. What if it has been a cardinal or more likely a Carolina Wren?

The House Sparrow is common everywhere you go and appears not to fear humans much. But I find them to be one of the most cautious birds around as far as common birds go.
Takes forever to get that first one in the trap but after that they get comfortable.
It's good that you bring up trapping. Far too many wait for the martins to return before trapping and then complain about HOSP's around their housing. I think I have 5 in the trap today.

Apparently I have dwindled the sparrow population around my place. Haven't seen any around for awhile..but I'm sure they will eventually show up. 
22 year landlord..9 Rack Systems for 2018 and my home built T-8 for a total of 166 cavities..160 pair in 2018 ..SUPER COLONY!!! Love You Bev... Fan of those St. Louis Cardinals!!!!!
