I guess im getting to old for this work (68) however it thrills me so much having all these martins after 15 years of waiting that I'll order another Gemini rack for 24 gourds plus 4 more for a bottom of a t-14. This will give me 106 cavities. I had better stop there because I don't know how I'll be able to do all the nest checks next summer. I will put my health in God's hands while asking Him to help me be as good martin landlord like all of you. I still have to learn how to teach them to eat crickets however I don't know if the crickets have to be alive to flip them with a sling shot.

Hi Dick,
you will be a Great PM Land Lord, I have a Gemini Rack also and just love it , I also have a LS Goliad 20 Room PM House , order crickets from Reptilefood.com freeze all the crickets, makes them easier to handle, to thaw them out just add warm water then flip them

I order cricketts 5,000 at a time and freeze on arrival, later I open the box and divide the cricketts into qt. size freezer bags (about 3 handfull in each) then place 4 or 5 qt. bags into gallon size bags for storage. After thawing a meal size portion I use plastic spoons to flip them up. The only problem is finding the.. Right.. plastic spoon, some break very easily, some are too flexible others have very little flex and brittle.

I get 2000 at a time, for my small colony. With this years weather, went through 7000! I have "MY BIG BLACK SPOON" that I use to flip a few at a time. With 10 pair, it is so much fun, and LOVE helping them at the same time!!Although I did lose two ASY females during the cold, wet period, We feel We saved MANY, MANY, more

WOW!!!!You are doing "GREAT" I am legally disabled with back problems. But, WOW, you have an AWESOME colony at 68. I want to add an addition but it is a lot work (well worth it) and I have a lot of friends who help and my mentor, Jim, still helps, but at times its still pretty tough. Good Job and THANKS from OUR MARTIN FRIENDS

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

I am sure you do! I am thinking of adding a gourd rack in 2015. Tell me what you love so much about this Gemini? I know I'd like to have 18-24 gourds. Thanks!
