Martin Colony History: I moved to South Florida, from Delaware, in August of 2015.

I care for a 6 condo Sunset House as well as two Deluxe Gourd Racks, with 24 Chirpynest/Excluder gourds, along a canal in Pompano Beach, Florida.

At Quiet Waters Park, nearby in Deerfield Beach, I care for a Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 TVG's. I also care for a Deluxe Gourd rack with 12 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder entrances. I am substituting 6 Chirpynest boxes for 6 of the Conley II entranced gourds in 2026.

At another local park, Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, I care for a Trendsetter 12, 5 gourds rack with 60 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder Entrances and 1 Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 Troyer Vertical Gourds with Starling Stoppers over the Conley II's to keep out smaller starlings.

I big change is about to occur in my life as I prepare to change my full time residency from DE to South FL.

If you would like to read more about my move and the changes in my martin setups you can check it all out under my Profile.

As I said, I feel badly about leaving my martin colony of 10 years but it is time for me to move on with my life. I am trusting in my friends here in Southern Delaware to continue on with the work I began and to furnish my faithful birds with homes in new locations in the area.

That's big news Carl!
You have made enormous contributions to the Purple Martin population in Delaware.
Not to mention, an award from the Governor himself for your efforts.
Very nice work sir.
Now awaits sunny skies, and LOTS of Martins, in the beautiful state of Florida.
We'll be looking forward to your Florida reports, and updates..... 8)

Congrats Carlton on your address change! Leaving those cold winters for year around warm temps is something we all would like to do someday. Sounds like you have left your martins with good company. Now it's time to start that new colony to go along with that new life change. Keep us all posted on your Martins...good luck..

Carl, I think we all know how dedicated you are to your martins at both locations - and feel your sadness at leaving your DE birds behind. But you have done all you could to ensure there will still be good homes for them there.

FL has a declining martin population, and you will be able to do good things there - we will all be cheering you on.

THANKS Louise, Tony and Matt! Your support means a lot to me.

This has been a tough decision but it is time to on to a new chapter in this Book Of Life.

Best of luck Carl. Hopefully your neighbor will pick the majority of your martins.
The Supergourds you gave me several years ago are still providing homes to martin families, a few have tunnels now but can still identify those with the green paint inside.

Carl:

Best of luck on your move to Florida. I know you will be just as active there with your martins as you were up north. Will you be in florida for the 2014 breeding season?

Carl --

Best of luck in your move to Florida, I know you will enjoy the winters there. My brother lives in Florida and he is always on me to come south. I probably will in a few more years. One thing is for sure, your Martin season will change (Time frame) that is. Good luck and have a great year.

Yes, I will be there for part of the 2014 season but I will be returning north to get my house on the market so I will also put up my backyard MSS houses next Spring. Have no clue how long it will take to find a buyer for my DE home. Wish I could find some Martin lovers as buyers! My friends in FL will once again take care of my FL set ups next April and May.

Carlton:
I know the sadness of leaving a wonderful home.
You will do good things for Florida, and they need you.
Leaving a legacy behind for others, is a wonderful gift to your friends, neighbors, and the state of Delaware.
Good luck, and keep us up to date, on our fine feathered Purple Martins.
:)
