The first round of fledging has started yesterday in Mechanicsburg. I have 8 nests expected to fledge over the next couple of days and 7 more to fledge toward the end of July. This is more spread out than previous years.
Also wanted to give an update on the widower ASY male I posted about a few weeks ago. I was concerned he would abandon the 4 hatchlings after the female died. I kept a close eye on him and am happy to say he has been working like a dog to feed the bunch. They will fledge in the next few days.

Have had visitor every year 2014-24.
Two large trees removed in fall 2024 and moved T-14 to a more open location.
2025- 1 SY pair. Fledged 2.
2026- no pairs. One daily SYM here daily. Named him Riggs!
Congrats. Send them to Centre County for a visit. I have a vacancy to fill next spring

2025, 1 SY pair. 2 eggs, 2 fledged!! Other martins visited daily.
Still eliminating starlings and sparrows.

- Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.
I also have chicks that will fledge in about 2 weeks, about the same time other eggs are ready to hatch. Looks like I may have them until the later part of August this year. One year I had them to early September.

We are on the Maurice River. The Maurice is brackish and tidal. It meets the Delaware bay about three miles down at East Point, NJ. The area is remote and consists of dense marshland and swamp. Dragonflies abound.
Swallows arrive in mid August and finish nesting mid July. There is a large annual roost in mid August upriver a few miles at Mauricetown.
That is so great to hear that the ASY male is so determinned.
