Dead bird ID Pic

Found this out back about 1:30 with fresh blood in dirt. No idea what kind it is with brown feathers. The feathers are long, no way its a sparrow. The martins are all fine.

Here is a cold little guy.

Maybe a Mockingbird or dove. The long brown feathers may be from the raptor that attacked.

Inca Dove primary feathers are reddish brown with darker brown on ends:

Look at the fifth picture, the underside of the wing has the exact coloration of the feather you have in your picture.

I really like Inca Doves - they've nested on porch of martin house here. Their call of "no hope! no hope!" is delightful! But like most of us, I'd rather a hawk dines on a dove than a martin, as we have many many doves of several kinds here. Of course, that might have been result of a cat attack.

These guys usually do not let ANYTHING in the back yard, lol, but anything is possible. I have bird netting on my martin pole for a guard. I checked the link and that is the doves in our yard.

My wife and I were wondering if it was a raptor that got the dove, why are there so many feathers spread out? We were thinking the raptor would pick it up and fly off. So maybe this was a cat or something. Will a raptor sit and eat in a yard?

The hawk that ate a female Cardinal at my feeder, caught the cardinal then sat on the ground for a few seconds to kill it, then took it up In a tree to eat it!

Thank you, his name is Boomer. He was found in a ditch when he was 5 weeks old, in San Antonio. He prob was the runt, he is small in size and huge on personality. Hard to believe somebody would just dump the little guy. He is 2, and never stops learning, and just amazes you on what he picks up on, and learns off your simple actions. He is also part of my right leg

All three were rescued. The pit is Jack and lab is Hanah.

I haven't seen my 3 since about Sunday I guess. I know I need to lower the house but I'm afraid what I will find. It's really been cold and wet here.

Carolyn, ours fed Sunday, then just stayed in mon & tues, are out feeding today. Check on them - they are probably okay. You could put some dead crickets in there when housing is down, or might find a weak bird you could help by warming it up and providing food.

We had six leave as soon as the sun broke, been out eating, lots I hope. Another strong front coming. Hopefully yours are ok in G Town.

Wish I had some crickets. I kept saying I was going to order some but never did.

Carolyn, in case of an emergency, you can buy dried or live meal worms or crickets at most pet food stores or even feed stores.

We live in Georgetown also. Unfortunately we were out of town when the cold hit. Lowered the housing yesterday after we returned and didn't find any birds. Then I saw ours come in last night. I was so VERY relieved.
Yours are probably OK but you need to check and see.
