Texas Hummingbird Black Chinned question

Okay all you hummingbird experts I have a question.

We have Black Chinned hummers in west Texas and along the Devils River we use to have a LOT of them. Beginning about two years ago we started seeing the numbers decrease and this year we have yet to see one, which is completely unheard of.

I know that we have had a drought in SW Texas for a couple of years and I know that about five years ago we had some major major fires burn in Northern Mexico and Southwestern Texas in the Davis Mountains and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with the low numbers.

Any thoughts or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds about right Jamey. We use to have a lot more hummers about 4 yrs ago. Last year we only had 1 showing up, but this year I have seen 2. Not sure why the decline over the years. Sure hope they get it together again!

Hey Jamie , we have B.Cs here already. Their diet has to do with small insects ect. Also since they use Spider webs as part if their nesting material, a lack if Those items might have a lot to do with them not showing up, kinda like the way PMs go where the insects are. Don't give up hope, I'm sure they'll show up! Hang in there!

Martin Colony History: 10 years

I have 4 hummingbird feeders when it gets a little warmer I will have 10 sometimes 20 or more they get crazy. Mine are green ones I don't know much about them but they are cool.
