Have a pair inspecting housing right now . Full adults so they might be refugees from all the wind damage around here lately ( had a 'nader touch down a mile from here last week ) .

I've been driving to the lake just to hear them . So glad they decided to visit and hope they'll stay .
2010: 5 pair - raptor attack .
2011 : nada .
2012 : 1 pair - 5 eggs / 5 fledged .
2013: zero
2014: Lots of visitors
2015 : several visitors . Seriously considering purchasing a drone to scare off raptors .

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

I too hope that they stay. If the housing is near a lake, they will like it

Martin Colony History: 24 Super and Excluder Gourds on two gourd racks, all SREH. Full occupancy. My philosophy is to maximize fledge % with existing cavities rather than adding gourds to grow colony, thus providing opportunities for new colony expansion. Fledge over 100 nestlings yearly from 24 gourds. Band nestlings in cooperation with state university. 2019 Adendum: Reduced colony size to 12 gourds to focus on more intensive management regimen.

Good luck this year. Patience pays off. Looks like another rough night in the south. Stay safe.

There were two pair here around 7 . :grin:

I live ~ 5 miles north of a large lake but have an extremely large " ash pit " ( from strip-mining ) within 100 yards to the north . There are plenty of dragonflies around but I really need to clear my fence lines . I have black locust trees on my property . I cut 'em down , they spread further .

Thinking about buying a small nuke . :roll:

Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!

Thanks for counting Mary. I was always wondering how many there was of us! We will be lessening that count in May!!! Louise said a good hatch last year so we should have some SY's coming! Good luck Siberman and Moma Bruff!!!! :grin: :grin:
